Chapter 17
Taylor
"Your body is perfect," he murmured to me, as he trailed his hand from my thigh to my waist and back down again. Even as my head throbbed, I couldnât help but notice how good it felt when he touched me like that.
"I donât know about that," I replied, half-turning to face him. "I mean, Iâve not been at the gym as much as Iâd like lately."
"It doesnât matter," he replied, brushing off my concern. "Youâre still perfect. Look at you. The way your waist curves in, the shape of your hips..."
He traced his fingers along each spot he was describing, almost reverent in his touch, and I couldnât keep the smile off my face. It was almost surreal, having him touch me like that, after so long trying to deny the way I felt about him, trying to ignore the chemistry the two of us shared. No matter how much pain I was in, no matter how much I wished I could just sit down to a hot meal and an entire gallon of fresh water, when he caressed me, I could forget all of it, just for a second.
"Itâs gorgeous," he continued. I shifted so that I could face him, staying close so I wouldnât lose any of the heat from his body.
"Thank you," I murmured, and I could feel my cheeks growing a little warm.
"Youâre blushing," he teased. "Why? Not used to hearing compliments like that?â
"Itâs just... I never thought Iâd hear them from you," I confessed.
"Never?"
"I had a crush on you when I was a teenager," I admitted. "A huge crush, actually. I didnât think you would ever look twice at me. It's surreal knowing that you think Iâm cute now."
"Oh, this isnât the first time Iâve noticed how cute you are," he replied, flashing me a grin. "I noticed you, too, back when we were younger."
I raised my eyebrows.
"You did?â
"Yeah, but it was mostly drowned out by how annoying I found you," he teased. I clapped a hand to my chest, playing at being insulted.
"And I only started finding you annoying when I was hired at the station," I replied.
"Yeah, guess weâve always had that tension between us," he remarked.
"You mean irritating the hell out of each other?"
"Something like that," he laughed. "Maybe it was a way to ignore how hot I thought you were."
"Or maybe itâs just because youâre genuinely one of the most irritating people Iâve ever met," I shot back playfully. "Donât flatter yourself into thinking it was just a cover up."
"Damn, just when I thought you were going to give me an ego boost," he replied, laughing.
He slipped his arms around me, and I nestled into his chest. I loved feeling his strength against me, feeling the safety I did whenever he was holding me. Even in the midst of the messy situation we were in, there was a comfort to be found in his arms, and I didnât want anything to get in the way of it.
"Whatâs going to
